5 Ways to Prevent Alzheimer’s Disease

FB

Alzheimer’s disease is scary, difficult, upsetting and many more things. What it is not, is totally preventable or curable. While the FDA and Pharma companies argue whether new drugs can or cannot cure and prevent the disease, it’s important to focus on the small things you can do every day to keep your brain in tip top shape!

Challenge Your Mind

Putting your problem solving abilities to the test can potentially have significant benefits on your brain. Working on a puzzle, creating a piece of art, or even just playing a fun game of cards, are great ways to get your gears going!

Get Your Beauty Sleep

Proper sleep patterns can affect your memory and thinking. Sleep apnea or insomnia can in turn have negative effects on the brain, as well as other functions of the body, and should always be treated!

Stay Healthy

Studies have shown that unhealthy habits like smoking and eating a high fat diet can affect the chances of Alzheimer’s. Risks for Alzheimer’s that often stem from unhealthy lifestyles can include obesity, high blood pressure and diabetes.

Run, Forest, Run

Regular exercise, specifically cardio, has shown to reduce cognitive decline. Next time you have a free 30 minutes, get out for a run, walk or bike ride! Any pace will do, as long as your heart is pumping!

Take Care of Yourself

When it comes to Alzheimer’s, mental health can also play a role in your risk. Anxiety, depression, stress or other mental health concerns can all factor in to cognitive decline and should be treated at the onset.

These are just a few ways to keep your mind sharp and healthy! While we hope that there will soon be a cure, there’s no time like the present to make a few simple changes that can have a positive lasting influence.
